MAY 2018

Hello Falcon Bluffs Families,

We can't believe that another school year is almost over.  Congratulations to our 8th grade class who will soon be Freshmen at High School.  We have enjoyed having you here at FBMS and wish you all the best next year.  Please join us on Wednesday, May 23rd at Chatfield Sr. High School at 5:00 p.m. as we hold our annual 8th Grade Continuation.

We thank all of our parents for their support over the year and wish everyone a wonderful summer break.

There is a still lot happening at FBMS and in our community, so please take a few minutes to review our May announcements/information below. As usual, thank you for your continued support and do not hesitate to reach out if you need anything.

Gifted and Talented

My name is Ronnie Ridpath and I'm happy to be serving as the Falcon Bluffs GT Ambassador 2018-19  school year. I'm hoping to help create some community among GT parents. I've found that being a GT parent can be frustrating and lead to a lot of questions. I hope to help provide some support. I will be providing information on free GT seminars provided by the district. I can get you in contact with GT resources for our school. I hope to have a couple of GT meet ups so we can discuss ideas about how to foster GT at our school.  We are also organizing quarterly meetings with Mr. Burns to collaborate on ideas/updates.
Please feel to reach out to me at rlynnridpath@comcast.net if you would like be a part of the GT email distribution.
Sincerely,

Ronnie Ridpath

Wishes At Altitude ~ Our very own Entrepreneurial Class exceeds their expectations - Way to go!

Each year, the students in Mr. Trujillo's Entrepreneurial class, come up with an idea for a product and then create, market and sell it. This year’s class chose to make a phone holder and an entryway organizer to hold keys and other items. The students later chose to customize the products in order to sell more. All proceeds from their sales go to Make-A-Wish Colorado to help sponsor wishes for kids. This year, they met and then exceeded their expectations to Make-A-Wish Foundation and presented them with a check for over $3,000.  The article was published in the Columbine Courier.  Please check out the link below.  Congratulations to this wonderful group of business entrepreneurs!

FALCON BLUFFS CHROMEBOOK 1-1 INITIATIVE FOR FALL 2018

The schools of the Chatfield area are committed to preparing students to be college and career ready - communication, creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking skills are essential to thrive in the 21st century. That is why our area elementary and middle schools are joining the Chatfield Chromebook initiative, launched this year by Chatfield Senior High, to bring a 1-to-1 Chromebook
learning environment to students grades 2-12. Having ongoing access to technology will allow our students to consistently practice and apply those 21st-century skills, and prepare them for a variety of post-secondary options.
The initiative will begin at different grades at each school. For the 2018-19 school year, all students entering 6th grade next year at Falcon Bluffs and Deer Creek will be required to purchase a Chromebook from the school to use for educational purposes at school and at home.
Please take a look at the link below for Falcon Bluffs Chromebook Letter to Parents and more information on this initiative.

COLLECTIVE COMMITMENTS:

The 6 FBMS Collective Commitments are Grit, Growth Mindset, Relationships, Intellectual Curiosity, Professionalism, and Collaboration.  We have focused on Grit and Growth Mindset and are now working on Relationships. We are learning how to work together and to embrace each others opinion and work together as a team. Please take a few minutes to ask your student about Relationships.

FALCON BLUFFS BOX TOPS FOR EDUCATION & LONGMONT DAIRY BOTTLE CAPS:

As you're doing your baking and preparing those special family meals, please remember to cut out the Boxtops for Education, look for the familiar pink logo.  These are on many products, and this is an easy way to help the school.  Boxtops can be taken to the office at any time. These give us 10 cents each, which actually adds up pretty fast when we get them by the bagful!  Money raised from this is used for needed supplies.  Please check the expiration dates on the boxtops and trim around the dotted lines.

If you get your milk delivered in glass bottles from Longmont Dairy, please bring in your bottle caps to the Main Office.  We are given a money donation from the dairy for our caps twice a year (December and May).  So get your daily dose of Vitamin D and help out our school as well!

Thank you for supporting FBMS!

PARENT COMMUNICATION AND CURRENT INFO:

A couple of reminders from our office staff:

·   Remember to call your child’s absence/tardy the day they are absent/tardy. Attendance line 303-982-9902.

  •    If your child needs an early dismissal, call the attendance line in the A.M. with the time you need them in the office waiting for pick up and have your child stop by the attendance window to pick up their early dismissal pass.

·   For absences other than illness, family emergency, medical procedures or religious observances a Pre-Arranged Absence form is required and is to be signed by the student’s teachers, parent and student and turned into the attendance office 3 days prior to the absence. These forms are available in the office and on our website.
http://falconbluffs.jeffcopublicschools.org/

·   It is extremely important that you check your Jeffco Connect parent account and make sure that we have the most up to date contact information, especially emergency phone numbers.  We have had a few instances this week where kids have been in the clinic, didn’t know mom or dad’s phone number off the top of their head, and when we looked it up on the computer it was blank.  Please take a minute to see that your information is correct.  Click here to go to Jeffco Connect.
